Diny Setup by dinyctis Diny Setup by dinyctis
Ahh yes, my setup. 30 inch LCD (HP LP3065) and a 21 inch (Dell 2001FPW). Resolution, you ask? 2550x1600 and 1200x1600 respectively. Downsides? I gotta make my own wallpapers for the big screen. Some would think that having to move your head a bit while looking at stuff is annoying, but I don't mind. I move my head much more while I drive.

Every PC gamer, graphic designer or artist should get a setup like this. Really, it's visual nirvana (without going into 5 figures). Pictures don't do it justice.

I have it setup with winamp and trillian on the smaller screen so that I can have everything important on the main screen. No need to minimize, ever.

The tablet's in the drawer (in case you see the pen but wonder where the tablet is)
And yes, I'm a lefty that used the mouse with the left hand. A rare thing among lefties!

The black thing to the right is the amplifier for the sound system, and the little blue light below it is from the subwoofer (klipsch 12-incher, I highly recommend it)

Overkill for a PC? Definitely, but since I spend so much time in front of it, I figured it'd be stupid to skimp out on its quality. :)

Nifty setup!

If I may ask, what is that round silver thing in front of the right speaker?

Neat!

I have one of those, USB connected. Haven't used it in ages though and it doesn't look nearly as awesome as yours does, heh.

Mine's not USB, though. It doesn't get much use in summer. In winter, though, it keeps the coffee warm!

I wouldn't suggest a USB one. I think it was pulling too much power through the bus and cooked the port, which is why I'm not using that warmer anymore. :|

Do you mean 2560x1600? I believe that's what WQXGA specifies, which is 16:10 30" screen standard.

Where is your car paraphernalia?! I have brake pads, my keys, my helmet, and various bushings/fasteners sitting on my desk as well… :D

I like the set up. Seeing the mouse on the left makes me do a double take. I entirely agree that having a quality screen, sound system, and lighting (looks like you have good light in that room) is very important to a good working environment. The other biggie would be the chair, a good Herman Miller chair does wonders. What are you rocking?

Yes, I was off by 10 pixels =P

Car paraphernalia? I'm afraid I don't have much, except for the big one in the Garage! I do have a big-ass Ferrari flag and some top-fuel dragster Valves. I can't really say that I've dedicated lots of space to car stuff. I want to, but I don't want to end up with a pile of useless stuff.

Which model? Big fan of the M5, although not my personal taste in cars. I like lighter and smaller. Which is why I have the M3. ;)

I have the E39 M5. After owning it for 3 years, I've developed a desire for simpler cars like the E36 and E30 M3s. Although I want to get and restore a 1970s Alfa Romeo GTV :)

I suggest the E30 M3 with a five link rear swap from an E46. An S54 or N54 + six speed (sacrilege, I know…). Five lug swap in the front, some monster brakes (Alcons or Performance Friction), and 17x8.5 light wheels all around. I recently drove one of these and have been coveting it madly.

Personally I got the E36, although there isn't much E36 left on it. 2700lbs wet without driver, and nearly everything is modified.

Must be a blast to drive! I'm close to finishing the M5. All it needs now are coilovers, headers, a respray of the front end, and that's it! Oh, and a radar detector and laser jammer to finish it off =P

xD That's an awesome set up! Love those kinds of monitors that they're made for HD, which your beautiful space images are.
I use a PowerMac G4, hoping I'll ze get MacPro xD. I has 24 inch 1920 x 1080 acer, not as great as the ones your using, but it does well what I do. x3 Hoping I'll get another, duel is FTW.:D
Lefty here as well! :3 Though, my whole family are right handed so I'm pretty much the only one who's left handed. But I use the mouse with my right. x3

Unless you use a 3d program, a video card isnt much use for art like 95% of my gallery. Photoshop and illustrator need good hard drive speed, good memory, and a good processor :)

Why is one of the monitors set up the way it's set up (vertically)? Quite interesting! And the whole thing is to die for :)

The larger monitor runs a resolution of 2550x1600. The smaller one runs 1600x1200. But if I rotate it like this, it becomes 1200x1600....which is now the same height as the other one. this way, it's like an extension of the other one without height changes. It's seamless to work from one to the other, as the mouse doesnt skip around and windows don't change size when i drag them between monitors.

Now that is a quite original setup indeed. Good thinking. I have two monitors myself but both are different resolution...I might just try your technique.

How do you feel about Macs? My mom has been thinking about getting me one so that I can make better visual art, but it seems to me that you don't think that one is neccessary...?
Reply
:icondinyctis:
dinyctis Featured By Owner May 24, 2009
I despise Macs. We use them at work (G5s) and I dont like them. But while I can go on for days as to why I don't like Macs, I can tell you that a Mac will not help you make better visual art. Only you can make better art and the computer that you use has nothing to do with it.

But, you know, many people swear by Macs, and that's fine by them. You might be one of the many who prefer working in a Mac environment.

But yea, a "Mac for better visual art" is not a valid argument :)

I'm left handed indeed.

How much? Hmmm

1500 for the monitor (though you can grab one of similar size and better quality for just $1000 today)
About 1200 for the computer itself (hardware) and like 500 for the speakers.

This was all built overtime, mind you. I didnt get everything at once.

That may work, but II dont think 26" goes to 1080p, in which case you'll be running 720p.

A 27" LCD dedicated monitor, though, will have much higher resolution.

interesting, 720p seems fine to me though. out of curiosity, what size TV do you think I would need for 1080p?
