Ahh yes, my setup. 30 inch LCD (HP LP3065) and a 21 inch (Dell 2001FPW). Resolution, you ask? 2550x1600 and 1200x1600 respectively. Downsides? I gotta make my own wallpapers for the big screen. Some would think that having to move your head a bit while looking at stuff is annoying, but I don't mind. I move my head much more while I drive.
Every PC gamer, graphic designer or artist should get a setup like this. Really, it's visual nirvana (without going into 5 figures). Pictures don't do it justice.
I have it setup with winamp and trillian on the smaller screen so that I can have everything important on the main screen. No need to minimize, ever.
The tablet's in the drawer (in case you see the pen but wonder where the tablet is)
And yes, I'm a lefty that used the mouse with the left hand. A rare thing among lefties!
The black thing to the right is the amplifier for the sound system, and the little blue light below it is from the subwoofer (klipsch 12-incher, I highly recommend it)
Overkill for a PC? Definitely, but since I spend so much time in front of it, I figured it'd be stupid to skimp out on its quality.
What gfx card are these displays hooked up to? Lately I'm pondering about getting a 30" display and maybe keeping my current 24" one hooked up on the same PC as well but I'm not sure if my card or what kinda card can take both.
I'm using a single Geforce 8800 GTS 640mb. It's got 2 DVI outputs and an s-video out. I don't do much gaming, but it runs everything nice and smooth at very high resolutions. Half Life 2, Doom 3, Battlefield 2142 no sweat.
The thing is that these big-ass monitors require dual-link DVI. Regular DVI will limit it to 1280x960 which is hella crappy at this size.
The best ones right now (as far as I know) are the HP that I have and the Dell 3007WFP-HC (the HC part is very important). These have a better panel and can reproduce 92% of the NTSC color gamut, as opposed to 70-something for regular LCDs. It really does make a difference.
Ah, sweet! I had an eye on Dell 3007WFP-HC for a while now and the onyl other 30" one I knew of was the Apple Cinema Display which costs a crap load and doesn't seem to be good for DVD replay and gaming stuff. So I'll have to make up my mind between Dell and HP, and I need a new better graphics card anyways. I see the HP one has Three dual-link DVI-D inputs so I guess i could hook up up to 3 machines to it. Thanks for the info, man!
Beautiful view right here, man this just makes me want to upgrade my 2002 piece of crap of a computer... lol way too many crashes, and now it doesn't even play videos anymore.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example.
