Artist's Comments

This is probably one of my most minimalistic space scenes. Note that it doesnt even have a sun, and the stars are really simple.

Why did i bother submitting this, considering that my average deviation is 10 times more complex than this?

there are 2 main reasons:

1) As you all probably know, today (August 27th, 2003) Mars is "only" about 36 million miles from Earth. This might sound still really far, but its 5 times closer than a few months ago. This is due to the fact that Earth and Mars synchronized their orbits, which happens once every 60.000 years.
Why is this important and what does this symbolize? well think of it this way: No matter the race, country, religion, political party, hair color, eye color, age, social status, or gender, when looking up there i knew that millions of others were looking at the same thing, simply as earthlings. Its a way of uniting everything, even if just for one moment. This also symbolizes that space and technology, sooner or later, will bring us all united and we will just be "one."

2) This is a homage to my computer. As i write here, the mail truck is coming here to deliver the final parts to build the new computer. This computer is about 2 years old, and i started doing computer graphics with it. But now its time to upgrade, and it will now serve my parents for Internet surfing disaster.

I also submitted it because when looking up at mars, it was very simple, there werent any weird lights, or nebula, or moon, nothing. Just a dark sky with a red star. So i think this minimalistic piece kind of reflects that. Also i included the Earth and the Moon in there, to give a sense of scale, and to make you feel small, yet not insignificant (although thats up to you)

Believe it or not, this piece took me 1 day to make. If i had to duplicate it, it would barely take me 2 hours. But it took me a day because i was playing and trying different compositions, until i settled for the classy symetric one. Yea call it a waste of time, but i originally planned to make no more space art with this computer, until i changed my mind yesterday =P

I hope you enjoy it, at least a bit :)

this is a really nice homage to mars' trip closer to the earth. i actually think the simplicity works really well.

A most excellent addition to your gallery. Your work serves as inspiration and this one is no different.

I like the tone and detail on "Mars"... Very nice presentation. Thank you for sharing and may your old machine rest in peace. ;)

well that's lovely, the description that is.

and no matter how simple it may seem, it's still incredibly good. :-)

I love this, it's so simple yet affective.

I've been outside tonight to acctually look at Mars. It acctually IS bigger, and the red glow is so easy to see.

Awsome design, great piece. I would love you eternally if you would consider making a wallpaper version of this! :+favlove:

I love it. This really shows how hige mars is compared to Earth and how overpowering it is.

Looks great :D

Very deep man. I think that one of the corner stones of art is the emotion behind it. This piece my be "minimalistic" but the emotion in it is massive. This piece is powerful, and hearing you speak you mind about the how and why makes it even stronger. In my opinion this is a great piece of art, worthy of a fav based on its power and depth alone. nice pic and nice story ;)

but, i think there should be a sun in the image, bcuz of the light composition. btw, the mars looks a bit 'flat' - maybe its just me?
:iconolya:
as you said, this does make me feel tiny and insignificant.

what i love is your reasoning behind it. i'm glad you made something to remember such a unique event. i am proud of seeing it ... well, even though it has nothing to do with me. =)
