At work, we had this old iMac G4 that was retired some time ago and was ready to be taken to storage. Of course, "storage" means "get it the hell outta here but we wont feel bad about actually throwing it out."
Being that the average smartphone is more powerful than this thing nowaways, it wasn't gonna be very useful. I remember coming across a few projects that turned one of these into a lamp and I figured that I'd give it a shot. I hada few ideas and my father had the technical skill-set (and equipment) to pull it off.
So, after some weeks of tinkering and playing around, this is the result. Granted, the only original parts are the disc on the base, the "shade," and the chromed arm. Everything else was machined or fabricated out of aluminum or walnut and put together.
So, the computer that was going to be sent away to storage is now lighting up our lobby.
A lot, actually. My father and I figured out how much it would be to put another one together if somebody wanted and materials and time would drive the price slightly north of $500.
