I'm going through a bit of a rebirth here. I have finally found an itch for space art again, but with a twist. The hint for that is "Vessel." The one thing that got me started with space art was not the "coolness" of it. Hameed and I were among the first here in dA to really get the genre noticed and kept pushing the boundaries both graphically and conceptually. Hameed is still one of my top, if not my favorite digital space artist here in dA.
Anyways, if you're familiar with my work, you'll notice that the vast majority of my space work are scenes. Static scenes with not a lot going on. Just like a picture of a bunch of trees. This was fine then, it was what I wanted to show. Now it bores me. Space "scenes" in general now bore me, save for a few. I have been asked if I was gonna do terraspace, which I turned down since I dont like Terragen as a tool. Its results are much too generic and I want to have absolute total control of what I do. I do think that it can be a great tool for imaging, like some scenes made out of pictures of the martian surface. But artistically, I dont like it.
But thats not the only reason why I wont do that kind of work (typical landscape on bottom, space on top formula). You see, the whole idea of space art or scenes in general was to depict places in which I wanted to be. And I wanted to be in space, floating around and looking at the scenes, not on some planet looking up at the sky. I can do that here, and nothing beats the sight of the milky way on a clear night sky. So that criteria alone obliterates any chance of combining landscapes and space. Either all landscape, or all space for me.
Anyways, this rebirth was caused by a flood of "scnees" in which things are going on. Not static stuff, but action. Not super motion blurred action, but things happening. Sadly, little or no time for those now. I also have a few misc ideas for posters and a remake of my planet tutorial. Way too many copycats are paraphrasing it without changing a single thing. It needs some revamping and new information.
But right now, my main project is (finally) my new site! Oh its being built in flash and its fun but a bit tedious work. I've already gotten to that state of having liked something but getting tired after looking at it for so long. It always happens when I work on things for long periods of time. A bit annoying, but thats how it is. I wonder if its possible to work around that.
So yea, hows that for a proper journal

Salutations!
Due to reasons that are foreign to me, a tutorial that I wrote in September of 2003 is now on the front page of the website in February of 2017. What a pleasant surprise! I'm glad to see that this is still being of some use after all this time and that Photoshop hasn't changed all that much. Since that will mean people flocking to this page, I wanted to write a little message:
Welcome! I hope that you like what you see. It is a glimpse of what I created many many years ago. The lack of activity does not represent a lack of interest in art. Design/art is what I do for a living, so I do not do it as much of a hobby anymore. Let me tell y
Another Earth? Nope, same as this one
I was watching the movie "Another Earth" when I noticed something familiar. To be more specific, artwork that looked like something I made a few years ago. I used the word "familiar" very loosely, because I'd recognize something that I made anywhere from very few details.
At the 17 minute mark of the movie, the main character goes on a website to write a small essay for a contest. Guess what artwork is used as part of the background of that website? This: http://fav.me/d18g5o
It's just rotated, but it's exactly the same! The flare has the same angles and the Earth is showing the exact same position. I made that
Custom Shirts - Where?
Over the years, I've been getting requests from some people about having a few of the designs that I've made available as shirts. I always thought it was "one of those things" where it could be much more effort than it was worth. However, as selfishly as this might be, I've just made a few personal designs that I'd like to have made as shirts. As such, I could make a few of the designs available including some new ones.
However, I could use some guidance in choosing a service. I figured that the art community (and hopefully a few of the people who will stumble upon this entry) will have a better idea than me (which is none!) One with so
Thank you, CNN
Thank you, CNN, for you have made me chuckle. When I see things like these, I can't help to think that someone realized it and made it happen (or made it more obvious). What am I referring to?
THIS
I'd normally just leave it at that. However, 5 years after posting my Grammar Natzee poster, people still tell me that I misspelled the word Nazi. So as a service to those people:
One line mentions Kelsey Grammer, which has a last name that is the word Grammar misspelled. And, on the next line...they mention Spelling.
I mean, it's not that big of a stretch, is it? It's not Glenn Beck-ish, right? It is awesome in every way!
